Deep Clean Hardwood Floors

For those of you lucky enough to have hardwood floors in your home, do you know how to properly care for them?  I have attached an excellent article by Better Homes and Gardens that goes through step by step instructions on the proper way to care for your floors.

I will summarize for you below:

1) One of the main things you can do to help, is place mats by all of the interior/exterior doors.  This will help decrease the amount of dirt that gets tracked into your home.

2) Before you start cleaning, take the time to dust the floor first to remove any pet hair or particles that are on the floor.

3) Use a diluted (according to instructions) wood floor cleaner for deeper cleaning.  Ring out the rag so that it is just slightly damp to prevent any standing water on your floor.  Follow the instructions of the floor cleaner.  Use a ceiling fan (if you have one) to speed up the drying process when done.
