Lawn Care

Now that we are into the dog days of summer, I want to take a moment and give a brief lesson on lawn care.  Taking care of your lawn might seem like an easy task, but there are some very simple things you can do that can make a world of difference when it comes to the color and quality of your lawn.

1) When is the right time to water the lawn?  The best time to water the lawn is first thing in the morning.  I know, I know, we have things to do...getting ready for work... feeding the kids...not to mention attempting to feed yourself!  Hah. But usually first thing in the morning (no later than about 10am) is the best time.  You can always go to your local hardware store and get an automatic timer for such the occasion!

2) How often to water?  Don't treat your grass like you treat your flower bed.  Water less frequently, but for longer periods of time is going to be best.  You want the water to be able to soak deep into the roots of the grass for the best results.  If you water too much too often you could be allowing the water to sit on top of the blades for too long and this type of environment just breeds fungus.  It really is going to depend on your soil type as to if you are more like top soil or like clay.
